How to maintain sod
Water, Water, Water!
It is absolutely crucial that sod doesn’t dry out as it is rooting itself into the ground. Ideally once or twice per day but not before night to prevent mold. Do this for a few weeks.
Cutting
Make sure to cut the grass fairly high for the first month or so, if you notice it is causing damage stop immediately and wait a few more days.
Fertilizer
When we do installations we include a treatment of the soil underneath the sod but it helps after about a month or so to put some down.
No Heavy Traffic
Try to keep off the busy areas on the grass in the first few weeks, this will allow the grass to create deeper roots faster.
No Power Tools
It is essential that nothing too invasive is used on fresh grass. For power raking and aerating it is recommended that you wait a full season before doing either of these tasks.
Top Dressing
To truly go the extra mile on your new sod, you want to apply a top dressing after about a month or so, this will ensure all the roots are properly embedded into the soil.
